Taiwan Film Festival in Scotland 2025

Taiwan Film Festival in Scotland 2025 opened in Glasgow with Family Matters, receiving warm acclaim.

Organised by the Cultural Division of the Taipei Representative Office in the UK, Taiwan Film Festival in Scotland 2025 takes place at both the Centre for Contemporary Arts and the Glasgow Film Theatre from 4 to 19 November. The opening night with the screening of Family Matters (Pan Ke-yin, 2025) attracted an enthusiastic near full-house audience, marking a promising start to the festival.

This year’s edition, themed “Encounter Taiwan and the World,” is curated by the independent Taiwanese curator Chun-Wei Lu. The programme spotlights contemporary Taiwanese cinema through three thematic strands: Intimate Familial Bonds, Historical and Trans-cultural Legacies, and Voices Transcend the Boundaries. Lu noted that beyond showcasing Taiwan’s cinematic creativity, the festival aims to foster dialogue between Taiwanese cinema and Scotland’s cultural landscape, presenting Taiwan’s unique perspectives on global issues.

TFFS 2025 features films include Family Matters, Yen and Ai-Lee (Tom Shu-Yu Lin, 2024), Unexpected Courage (Shawn Yu, 2025), Road’s End in Taiwan (Maria Nicollier, 2025), Diamond Marine World (Hsiu Yi Huang, 2022), Island of the Winds (Hsu Ya-ting, 2025) , Salli (Lien Chien-Hung, 2023), Welcome to Taipei Main Station Hall (Tseng Wen-chen, 2025), Ça Fait Si Longtemps (Laha Mebow, 2018), Sleep with Your Eyes Open (Nele Wohlatz, 2024), Days Before the Millennium (Chang Teng-Yuan, 2021), and Mongrel (Chiang Wei-Liang & Yin You-Qiao, 2024).

In addition to feature films, the festival presents a Taiwan Shorts Selection, featuring 6 works highlighting the bold experimentation and dynamic creativity of Taiwan’s emerging filmmakers, whose innovative approaches challenge cinematic conventions in both form and content.
