2025 UK City of Culture feature Taiwanese performing arts groups
The Cultural Division of the Taipei Representative Office in the UK, in collaboration with the UK City of Culture initiative, presents the “Taiwan Focus” program, featuring Taiwanese performing arts groups D_Antidote Production (身體處方) and S. Production (斜槓青年創作體).
The UK City of Culture is a nationwide program held every four years, inviting cities across the UK to propose a vision for culture-led regeneration. Bradford has been designated as the 2025 UK City of Culture. Notably, this year marks Taiwan's first-ever participation in the UK City of Culture program and one of the few official partnerships with an Asian country.
As part of the “Taiwan Focus” program, D_Antidote Production will present "Palingenesis (㒩)" on July 30 at the Loading Bay, the choreographer Po-Hsiang Chuang explores the dynamic balance between the cycle of life and death, and the loneliness of dependence through poetic body language. While S. Production will stage the puppet show "Whale, Where Are You Going? (你欲泅去佗位?)” on August 31 at The Beacon, it plays with light and shadow to create a fantastical journey for families, symbolizing the meaning and longing of life.
The Cultural Division emphasized that the “Taiwan Focus” program not only provides a platform for Taiwanese groups to tour and perform in Europe, but also helps introduce Taiwanese artists to the wider UK arts scene through the UK City of Culture initiative.
