2025 Taiwan Season - Edinburgh Festival Fringe

2025 Taiwan Season - Edinburgh Festival Fringe Was a Huge Hit with Five-star Reviews and Sold-out Shows

Edinburgh Festival Fringe, the world’s largest performing arts event, grandly opened on August 1 this year. Supported by Taiwan’s Ministry of Culture, the Taiwan Season featured the participation of Chun Dance, S. Production, Yinalang Group, and Lu Production. Showcasing a diverse range of works—including dance, children’s theatre, magic, and object theatre—these productions earned unanimous praise from both critics and audiences within the very first week of performances.

This year, Taiwan Season - Edinburgh Festival Fringe delivered an outstanding professional showing. Chun Dance’s <Trace of Belief> received a 5-star review from Broadway Baby, 4 stars from The Scotsman and The Scottish Field, and was selected for the prestigious “Mervyn Stutter’s Pick of the Fringe”. S. Production’s <Whale, Where Are You Going?> was named by The Guardian as one of this year’s must-see family shows, also garnering 4-star and 5-star reviews from multiple outlets. Yinalang Group’s <Where Has All the Fruit Gone?>, an object theatre piece praised for its poignant, warm, and gently humorous style, earned 4 stars from Mix Up Theatre and widespread acclaim. Lu Production’s <Dazed and Confused>, blending drama and magic, received 4 stars from Broadway Baby and initiated discussions for an European tour next year.

On the afternoon of August 11, Taiwan Season hosted a “Meet the Artists” panel, drawing representatives from international arts organisations, venues, and artists to exchange insights on management, creative vision, and future plans. That evening’s Taiwan Season “Exchange Reception” attracted over 250 professionals from the global arts, media, and political sectors, and was hailed as one of the most talked-about events of the Fringe.

Ambassador Yao of the Taipei Representative Office in the UK attended the reception to show his support. In his remarks, Ambassador Yao noted that Taiwan, through this world-class platform, was able to present the creativity and innovation of its performing arts to a global audience. He expressed his gratitude to the four participating companies, as well as partner venues Assembly, Underbelly, and Dance Base, and looked forward to further deepening cultural exchanges.

Having participated in Edinburgh Festival Fringe for 12 consecutive years, Taiwan Season will keep bringing Taiwan’s creativity next year. With strong word-of-mouth and high-profile media recognition, the festival is expected to further expand Taiwan’s international collaborations and elevate its performing arts onto an even broader global stage.
