Taiwanese Cinema: Now and Then 2025


Garden Cinema in U.K. to present Taiwanese film screenings

The Cultural Division of the Taipei Representative Office in the U.K. and the Garden Cinema are collaborating to present the film screening program "Taiwanese Cinema: Now and Then 2025".

Co-curated by George Crosthwait and Millie Zhou, the program features 11 classic works by renowned directors including Ang Lee (李安), Hou Hsiao-hsien (侯孝賢), Edward Yang (楊德昌), King Hu(胡金銓), Tsai Ming-liang (蔡明亮), Tsou Shih-ching (鄒時掌), and Huang Hui-chen (黃惠偵). With more than 20 screenings, it showcases a wide range of genres, from drama and documentary to anthology film.

The program lineup includes "Pushing Hands (推手),” “The Wedding Banquet (喜宴)," "Dust in the Wind (戀戀風塵)," "That Day, on the Beach (海灘的一天),”“The Wayward Cloud (天邊一朵雲),” and “Legend of the Mountain (山中傳奇)”

In addition, guided reading sessions will be held, with Tsai Ming-liang, Tsou Shih-ching, and Huang Hui-chen joining online to engage in dialogue with U.K. audiences.

The Cultural Division noted that since 2024 it has partnered with the Garden Cinema to organize Taiwanese film screenings, aiming to deepen appreciation of Taiwan's cinema among U.K. audiences.
