Hayward Gallery, Southbank Centre presents exhibition 'Val Lee: The Presence of Solitude'
With support from the Cultural Division of the Taipei Representative Office in the UK, the Hayward Gallery in London collaborated with Taiwan’s RC Foundation to host "Val Lee: The Presence of Solitude," presenting Taiwanese artist Val Lee (李奧森)'s first solo exhibition in the UK.
On view through Jan. 11, 2026, in the Hayward Gallery's HENI Project Space, the exhibition is co-curated by Yung Ma and Felix Choong. It features video works, photography, and installations that explore themes of isolation and solitude.
The exhibition features new iterations of two existing works: "Valley in the Minibus" (2024) and "The Sorrowful Football Team" (2025), which delve into the concept of transitory non-spaces' and political repression in Taiwan during the White Terror respectively.
The Cultural Division of the Taipei Representative Office in the UK noted that this collaboration with the Hayward Gallery underscores its mission to spotlight Taiwanese artists on the international stage. It also acknowledged the RC Foundation's efforts in fostering global partnerships and creating platforms for artists from Taiwan.
