BFI ‘Myriad Voices: Reframing Taiwan New Cinema’
Co-organized by Taiwan's Ministry of Culture and British Film Institute, "Myriad Voices: Reframing Taiwan New Cinema" took place at BFI Southbank in London. The Taiwanese season featured 15 films across 30 screenings, aiming to paint a fuller picture of this vibrant film movement and also shift the spotlight towards lesser known but vital contributors.

Shimmering Production 'Islands'
Taiwanese artist, the Rose Prize 2025 nominee Wang Yeu-Kwn presents Islands, a dance performance that captures the tenderness of the earth and our bond with it. Through graceful movement and intimate storytelling, Wang invites audiences to reflect on the ties between humans and the islands we call home.

Taiwan Film Season at GFT
Explore the rich and diverse storytelling of Taiwan through Shape of Home, a film season at Glasgow Film Theatre (GFT) that celebrates the universal search for belonging and identity. Featuring four compelling films by acclaimed Taiwanese directors, each screening delves into the complexities of family, tradition, and personal struggles.

London East Asia Film Festival 2024
The capital’s premier celebration of East Asian cinema and culture, LEAFF proudly returns for its 9th edition in 2024. This year’s programme promises an extraordinary showcase of cinematic gems from Korea, Taiwan, Japan, China, Hong Kong, Vietnam and Philippines, all woven around the powerful theme of survival, resilience, and aspiration.

'Huang Po-Chih: Waves' exhibition at Southbank Centre
Taiwanese artist Huang Po-Chih’s solo exhibition at Hayward Gallery, Southbank Centre. Drawing upon his family heritage – particularly his mother’s experiences as a garment worker in Taoyuan – Huang engages with the personal narratives of individuals involved in the textile industry across China, Hong Kong, South Korea and Taiwan.
Taiwanese Cinema: Now and Then
Following the popular New Taiwanese Cinema season last year, a new programme Taiwanese Cinema: Now and Then, will showcase classic and contemporary films from Taiwan throughout September at Garden Cinema . This season features iconic director-actor collaborations, martial arts classics, and recent debut features.

2024 Taiwan Season - Edinburgh Festival Fringe
Launched in 2014, Taiwan Season has become a prominent feature at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, showcasing a rich array of Taiwanese dance, theatre, and live performance. Over the past decade, it has developed a strong and sustained presence, offering international audiences a glimpse into Taiwan’s vibrant and diverse cultural landscape.

Bat Night Market: Ku Kuang-Yi & Robert Charles Johnson
Bat Night Market is a collaboration between UK artist Robert Charles Johnson and artist Kuang-Yi Ku from Taiwan/Netherlands. Brought by the 2024 London International Festival of Theatre (LIFT), the unique event brought together art, design, and science in a thought-provoking exploration of our relationship with nature.

Taiwan Festival : The Coronet Theatre
Discover the vibrant tapestry of Taiwanese culture at The Coronet Theatre Taiwan Festival. Throughout the April, the London audiences will be able to immerse in a dynamic program featuring ground-breaking performances in dance, music, visual art, and physical theatre, as well as cutting-edge VR and immersive experiences.

Cloud Gate Dance Theatre 'Lunar Halo'
In an eagerly anticipated event, the internationally acclaimed Cloud Gate Dance Theatre is set to captivate London audiences with their mesmerizing performance of 'Lunar Halo' at Sadler's Wells, London. The performance marked a rare opportunity for the UK audience to witness the artistry of Cloud Gate Dance Theatre.

'Making New Worlds: Li Yuan-chia and Friends' Exhibition
The exhibition traces Li Yuan-chia's dedication to nurturing creativity, his fascination with play, and his exploration of novel ways of existing in the world. Through the LYC Museum and Art Gallery, Li displayed Roman artifacts, pieces from key figures in British modernism, local artists' works, and contemporary practices.

London East Asia Film Festival 2023
The renowned LEAFF is back in 2023 with rich and diverse programme comprising 48 titles, both contemporary and restored classics, including 12 International premieres and 25 UK premieres from South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Singapore, Hong Kong, China, Tibet, Philippines, and Macao.

Eleng Luluan at Liverpool Biennial 2023
Taiwanese indigenous artist Eleng Luluan has been invited to create an on-site artwork titled Ngialibalibade - To the Lost Myth for the Liverpool Biennial 2023. It is exhibited for the first time at the Princes Dock in Liverpool. With this year’s Biennial theme "uMoya: The Sacred Return of Lost Things," the work echoed the history and characteristics of Liverpool.

'Macule' public artwork by Michael Lin
The Southbank Centre in London has commissioned Taiwanese artist Michael Lin to create a new public artwork for the Hayward Gallery Café, now available for public viewing. Lin's work Macule injects a lively energy into the Hayward Gallery's brutalist architecture. The piece showcases Lin's signature style of repeating plum blossom patterns.

A Touch of Zen | Taiwan Films at HOME
As a part of <Flying Fighters of Taiwan> Taiwan Films at HOME Manchester, it presented the wuxia epic A Touch of Zen (1971). Widely regarded as the greatest martial arts epic of all time, A Touch of Zen won awards worldwide, smashed box-office records and had an incalculable influence on the genre as a whole.

2022 Taiwan Season - Edinburgh Festival Fringe
Presented under the umbrella title ‘A Glimpse of Taiwan’, this year’s roster of carefully-chosen productions runs a gamut from full-on contemporary dance (See You) and thoughtfully stylised dance-theatre (The Whisper of the Waves) to cross-art form experimentation (TOMATO) and circus-style, multi-media spectacle (Light of Life).

Le Moulin & Poetry Talk | TFEE 2022
As part of the Taiwan Film Festival Edinburgh 2022, the special event for poetry was hosted at the Scottish Poetry Library in Edinburgh. In the early 20th century, Taiwan was rapidly developing into a modern state under the influence of Japanese colonial rule. It was against this backdrop that the country’s first modern art group – Le Moulin Poetry Society.

2021 Taiwan Season - Edinburgh Festival Fringe
Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2021 hosted a mixed program of digital and physical events, giving international performers and Fringe-goers a chance to participate in the action online. Embracing this hybrid format, Taiwan Season was online to give Edinburgh Festival Fringe audiences an insight into the Taiwanese performing arts.

International Literature Translation Summer School 2021
The Cultural Division of Taipei Representative Office in the UK and the National Museum of Taiwan Literature teamed up with the British Centre for Literary Translation (BCLT) to help bring Taiwanese literature to international audiences. BCLT's Summer School featured a series of online workshops and lectures for translators of Taiwanese Mandarin literature.

Vincent Hsu at Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival 2021
Co-curated by Taiwanese musician Vincent Hsu (徐崇育) and jazz band Harlem Inc., a music performance titled "Harlem Legacy: Back to St. Nick’s Pub" will be presented at the Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival, as part of its online program "Jazz From Around the World."

'Vision Taiwan' Programme - 10th CVF at BFI Southbank
The highly popular "Vision Taiwan" programme, supported by the Ministry of Culture and Taipei Representative Office in the UK, will be showcasing two Taiwanese films "As We Like It" and "Get the Hell Out" in the 10th CVF at BFI Southbank.

Taiwan Post New Wave Cinema Project II at SOAS
The Centre of Taiwan Studies, SOAS launched its much anticipated second edition of the Taiwan Post-New Wave Cinema Project, which carried through its mission to raise awareness of contemporary Taiwan cinema by presenting a brand new season of director focused film series followed by live Q&A sessions online.

Jun T. Lai’s ‘Bloom Paradise’ at Sculpture in the City
Turning the City of London into an urban art gallery, the 10th edition of Sculpture in the City included Jun T. Lai’s ‘Bloom Paradise’ on display in the streets of the capital’s financial district for the first time – amongst a selection of eighteen artworks in total.

Taiwan Pavilion 'Swingphony' at 2021 London Design Biennale
Sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Taiwan, organised by the Taiwan Design Research Institute (TDRI) and curated by Bito, the Taiwan Pavilion presents its Swingphony exhibition at 2021 London Design Biennale. The inspiration comes from the diversity of religions in Taiwan, combined with physics – The Schumann Resonances.

London East Asia Film Festival 2020
For the fifth year in a row, Taiwanese films will be hitting London’s cinemas as a part of the London East Asia Film Festival – the largest film festival of its kind in the UK. Running on an adjusted timeframe due to the pandemic and local restrictions, Taiwanese films “Detention”, “I WeirDO” and “Wild Sparrow” will be screening at this year’s festival.

Taiwan Post New Wave Cinema Project at SOAS
SOAS Centre of Taiwan Studies, University of London is set to launch the 2020 Taiwan Post-New Wave Cinema Project. Supported by the Ministry of Culture of Taiwan, this series of online events introduce 15 films by 3 important directors who emerge after New Wave Cinema in 1980s: Hou Chi-Jan, Lin Shu-Yu, and Cheng Yu-Chieh.

Queer East Film Festival 2020
The Queer East 2020 highlighted Taiwan as the country of focus this year, celebrating Taiwan’s landmark same-sex marriage law - the first in Asia. The special strand showcases the country’s rich tradition of LGBTQ+ filmmaking, including classic titles like The Wedding Banquet, Girlfriend Boyfriend and a strong selection of short films.

Transcending Boundaries: Contemporary Lacquer Art & Metalwork in Taiwan
The exhibition ‘Transcending Boundaries: Contemporary Lacquer Art & Metalwork in Taiwan‘ took part in the UK’s largest celebration of craft culture. A new generation of innovative Taiwanese craftspeople are redefining the essence of craft in Taiwan society, breaking the stereotype that craft was a traditional practice exclusively for legendary masters.

Taiwan Film Festival Edinburgh 2020
The Taiwan Film Festival Edinburgh is a nomadic UK festival delving deep into the rich history and culture of the people of Taiwan. For the first time, the Festival was planned to take place in Edinburgh but, in light of the global pandemic, the event was re-pivoted to a purely online form, presenting 20 carefully selected titles to the audiences.
