Family Times by Annie Wang & Liu Hsing Yu｜Bristol Photo Festival

As a part of Bristol Photo Festival, Family Times brings together Taiwanese photographers Liu Hsing Yu (劉星佑) and Annie Wang (汪曉青), exploring how family relationships are continually reshaped by time, memory, identity and social change.

Liu’s My Father and Mother revisits his parents’ wedding photograph through role reversal and the re-enactment of family memories, reflecting on both social change in Taiwan and his own journey of identity. Wang’s The Mother as a Creator has documented her relationship with her son for 17 years, layering annual portraits to create what she calls a visual “time tunnel”.

Together, their works offer intimate perspectives on family, identity and belonging, showing how photography can make the subtle transformations of relationships across generations visible. Presented as part of Bristol Photo Festival, the exhibition brings Taiwanese contemporary photography to the international stage.
