ㄎTaiwanese artist Tsai Yu-ting (蔡昱廷) has been selected for a 12-week residency at the Delfina Foundation in London, organized in partnership with the Cultural Division of the Taipei Representative Office in the U.K. He will be in residence from June 22 to Sept. 13.

Tsai's practice spans nature, history, technology, and corporeality. Trained initially in mechanical engineering and later in new media art, he integrates technological systems within installations, moving-image works, and mixed-media practices.

During his residency, Tsai will explore how traditional beliefs can be reinterpreted within contemporary urban contexts. Inspired by the ways mascots, rituals, and performances embody deities, spirits, and collective memory, he approaches the modern city as a site where collective consciousness is shaped through everyday encounters.

Tsai's recent exhibitions and presentations include "Black Water," Taiwan Art Biennial, National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts, Taiwan (2025); "Seeking for Absent Forms in Forests," solo exhibition, Kuandu Museum of Fine Arts, Taiwan (2024); "The Prisoners' Dilemma of Memory," Museum of Contemporary Art Taipei (MOCA Taipei), Taiwan (2026); Ars Electronica Festival, Ars Electronica POSTCITY, Austria (2025); and "PROYECTOR - Ecos de Taiwán," Cuartel de Artilleria Murcia, Spain (2025).

The Cultural Division highlighted its support for Taiwanese artists and curators, emphasizing its role in connecting them to international networks and noting Delfina Foundation's extensive platform for advancing artistic practice.

藝術家蔡昱廷獲選赴英國戴芬娜基金會駐村創作

為鼓勵我國藝術人才發展創作並豐富國際交流經驗，文化部駐英國代表處文化組自109年起持續與英國倫敦藝術專業駐村機構戴芬娜基金會（Delfina Foundation）合作，公開甄選臺灣藝術家或策展人至倫敦進行策展、創作相關研究。經戴芬娜基金會甄選，115年由藝術家蔡昱廷獲選，預計於6月22日至9月13日間赴英駐村創作。

蔡昱廷為國立臺北藝術大學新媒體藝術碩士，具有機械工程學士背景，現為獨立藝術家。創作語彙多結合自然、科技、歷史等不同知識領域，媒材則跨及裝置、錄像與攝影。創作核心源自生命經驗、精神、地方、歷史的挖掘與辨認，著重身體感、技術介入與個體多重主體性的形塑過程，由拓樸學觀點觀看個體，思路穿梭於不同的系統、座標，交織出共通點位置，在相性不同的歷程中觀看經驗在個體作用的狀態。

蔡昱廷曾在臺灣舉辦數場個展，包含2024年《不眠山》（關渡美術館）、2025年《影像沙盒、母女》（金馬賓館當代美術館）、《哭喊、笑、浸濕身體、輕聲道別》（彰化縣立美術館）、《家後》（洪健全基金會）等，亦曾參與2024年西班牙馬德里國際動態影像藝術節（Festival Proyector）、2025年韓國CICA美術館《Art Is》展覽、2025年奧地利林茲電子藝術節（Ars Electronica Festival）等國際性展會，其作品近年獲得「高雄獎」、「臺南新藝獎」、「桃園國際藝術獎」等獎項。

戴芬娜基金會表示，今年臺灣藝術專業人才駐村計畫共有106名申請者，創作或策展經歷俱佳，競爭激烈。蔡昱廷於其申請計畫中提出，規劃延續近年對「當代城市中的信仰實像、集體意識與地方敘事」的研究，思考傳統信仰、象徵物如何在當代都市環境中被重新轉化與感知，從吉祥物、儀式和表演中對神靈、精靈和集體記憶的呈現方式中汲取靈感，將現代城市視為日常交往中逐漸形成集體意識的場所。蔡昱廷希望透過對話、實地研究和步行探索，觀察都市節奏、收集當地民間故事與記憶，並進行人際交流，運用推測性和虛構性敘事手法將相關進行結合。

文化部駐英國代表處文化組表示，將持續推動各項計畫支持臺灣藝術家與策展人走向國際，期待透過戴芬娜基金會擁有的豐沛專業網絡，協助獲選者在駐村期間與當代藝術社群開啟更多元化的對話、建構其國際人脈，並使獲選者獲得後續策展構想和素材，再將相關研究成果回饋至國內外場域。
